I spent my Sunday hiking Pickle Springs with some friends. While most of the group headed into town for drinks and to fix a flat tire, Jace, Mark and I stayed and hiked down to check out the water we could hear from the outlook.

Here, Mark is shooting a different vantage point than most people get to witness, offering a glimpse behind the short falls.

The area used to be named Cucumber Springs, but after the great Vinegar spill of 88', everything changed. :)

This image is a manual blend of three exposures. The wooded area was overexposed in the base image and required a photo with three less stops of light to balance out the detail. Also, another shot was used to pull out detail in the shadows at the back of the falls.

It's the difference between a photographer and a person who merely takes pictures!

Photographers who are willing to get cramped, wet, bonk their head, fall off a ledge...are the ones who often get the best images.

If they/we survive long enough, lol.

Great shot. Curious tho - you mention the bluish area near the top is a frozen waterfall - but there's no ice in the foreground waterfall?

Thanks! Ain't that the truth! Considering that the fall is tucked away in the cliff side I don't believe it sees much sunlight through the day. Well at least not as much as this stream runoff.

That's what I got to thinkin' later as well. We sometimes get that here in Niagara at times - streams will stay somewhat frozen under the thick tree coverage high up on the escarpment, while down below tends to melt in the sunlight.

Thanks! That is actually a shaded frozen waterfall. Kinda distracting now that ya mention it, lol.
