Dramatic skies begins to move in over the Sangre de Cristos. Strong SW winds push against the Northeasterly winds coming over the range, recreating the same phenomenon that caused the dunes to form in the first place. Nature at it's finest hour. Opposing forces creating a beauty that cannot be fully understood unless witnessed with your own eyes.

Awesome shot, Brad...the range of colors is outstanding for such a relatively simple scene.

Much appreciated LeeAnne! I'm not certain what prompted me to use f/2.8, but it may be the beer and lack of a tripod at the time.

First: Great composition. The, varied light, colors and details are wonderful. I've been to this area many times and didn't (at first) recognize it, in part because the weather and shadows give the sand dunes a rather dark and somber quality (which I like.) You captured the feel of the entire area (not just the mountains or the dunes or the valley.) You've also captured a weather change in a magical way here! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much! This was sitting outside the "Oasis Duplex", our stellar lodging for the time we were there.

I had to look the "Oasis" up. Making a mental note. ;) I'd like an inexpensive spot to stay nearby that allows for getting to photo ops in the early a.m. and late p.m. I'll keep it in mind.
