Spent a beautiful morning out at Creve Coeur lake hoping to get a bit of fall color and some great sky to boot. Luckily I was given both together about 45 minutes after I arrived. As each minute passed, the sky would morph and change color, causing my head to race around in a frenzy, although I chose to stay still and focus on a strip of shoreline that I pass frequently on my bike rides.
Plans are in the works to build a huge shopping mall very near to this lake, threatening it's beautiful scenery with all the negative effects of commercial expansion. This is the largest natural lake in Missouri and has already been compromised once with the construction of the Page Avenue extension. I'm not taking a stance to say that my image or voice will be of much influence for change but hopefully you all can appreciate the beauty and vulnerability of such a place.
It is sad to think that maybe one day all we will have left of such places like this will be images and memories...... The composition of this capture caught my eye initially. I particularly like the way the artist leads us into the picture using the shoreline in the foreground and the shoreline on the left. The colors are vibrant, but in no way excessive. The overall tonal balance of the shot could not be better. He has managed to capture the colors not only in the sky, but also in the water and them being there doesn't bring an imbalance into the image at all. On the contrary, it lends the image a certain symmetry that is a pleasure to look at. I like it very much and I also wish there really was something we could all do to keep places like this from being devastated by economical advancement.
The sad thing about the human race is that it sees somewhere that is visually stunning and decide to market it, build on it and ultimately ruin it.
You composition, framing and pin-sharp focus is spellbinding and I could look at this all day without any trouble. The only thing I find frustrating is that I can't poke my head into the picture to look left and right to see whats hiding there.
Wonderful atmosphere, and the composition with the stones and clouds emphasizes the quiet of this moment in a beautifully embracing gesture. Do I see a large bridge behind the trees?
