Landscape photography relies heavily on lighting conditions and the "golden hour" provides you with the best light of the day. Dragging yourself out of bed while it's still dark out doesn't sound like a lot of fun to many people. I've always been more of a morning person than most people I know and when you get to witness scenes like this, you can start to see why. I had taken a few different shots this morning and each time I liked what I had, the lighting continued to dance across the mountains creating an even more dramatic scene. Out of all the shots this turned out to be my favorite which ended up being an accidental two shot panorama. I never shot it with the intention of stitching but it worked out beautifully.
